On Wednesday morning, an armed man who had allegedly killed at least five people at a Tennessee movie theater stormed the building, and the police said they had found a pistol and three rifles in his car.
The shooter, named as James T. Hodgkinson, was found dead shortly after midnight.
He was shot by a police officer after the police arrived at the scene and shot him once in the chest, police Chief Steve Anderson said.
The motive behind the attack is unclear, but the gunman had apparently been feuding with the owners of the theater for several months, according to The Associated Press, citing police.
Hodgkinson had been living in the U.S. since 2007, according a criminal complaint obtained by The Associated Post.
He was arrested in Illinois in January after he was convicted of felony battery and sentenced to prison.
“There are many, many people out there that don’t deserve to live like this,” said Anderson.
There was also a small number of people who were in the theater when Hodgkinson opened fire, and they were evacuated to the hospital and released.
Anderson said the shooter was not connected to any other attacks or any political groups.
At least 59 people were injured in the attack, and three of them died.
