The San Jose Mercury News reports that Justin Bieber has filed a $50 million civil lawsuit against the city of San Jose for alleged police brutality, a claim that the police union says is unfounded.
The claim alleges that Justin was stopped by police and handcuffed while playing basketball and that he was then pepper-sprayed by two officers.
According to the Mercury News, the suit states that officers handcuffed Bieber’s ankle and wrists and punched him in the head.
A spokesperson for the city declined to comment.
A representative for Justin Bieber did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The lawsuit, filed in San Jose Superior Court on Thursday, seeks unspecified damages for excessive force and excessive use of force, as well as unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
According the Mercury, Justin’s parents, Ryan and Kim, are currently vacationing in the Philippines, but the suit alleges that their children were left behind in the country during the protests and that they are currently being detained.
