Galvin Brothers

Posted on May 10th, 2013

I’m a fan of the unique, handcrafted wooden furniture by Galvin Brothers, from the moment I first spotted their Imperfect Stool:

Imperfect_Stool_Galvin_Brothers

Galvin Brothers design & make contemporary furniture from their workshops in Yorkshire, England. They describe their furniture as functional objects with a twist, placing traditional joinery techniques at the centre of contemporary forms.

Founded in March 2012 as a partnership between Matthew Galvin (designer) and Andrew Galvin (joiner), they’re building on their Father’s 61 years of joinery and cabinet making experience. According to them Galvin Brothers furniture is designed & built to last; honest-to-goodness and evenly priced. ∗

“Markt van Morgen” in Antwerp

Posted on April 9th, 2013

This whole week I’m busy prepping for the creative Antwerp designers fair ”Markt van Morgen” (Tomorrows Market). I’ve written about this market already: click here to read the story. The 1st edition of 2013 will take place on Sunday April 14th and I’m very excited to tell you I will have a stand on this market, selling Peppermint postcards and Peppermini handmade dolls! So, my sewing machine is working overtime right now. Luckily I’ve had help of my mother in law today (seriously, I have the best parents in law!). And my husband is helping me labeling the bags. Our house is like a mini factory right now… I will show you the Peppermini dolls this Friday!

Hope to see you in Antwerp this Sunday!∗

Favorite finds

Posted on February 1st, 2013

Since we moved to our new home about two months ago, I’ve been on the lookout for beautiful things to style our home constantly. Two items which are high on our wish list are a large rug for the living room & hanging lamps for our hallway & kitchen (which are both sooo incredibly hard to pick!). I find myself being attracted to cheerful colors like yellow & pink, and geometric shapes & prints. Here are some of my recent favorite finds:

Have a happy weekend!∗

The Tote Bag

Posted on December 11th, 2012

The tote bag – or canvas bag – it’s a convenient eco product for everyday use. It’s becoming more popular by the day and it’s evolving from being a handy, environmental friendly replacement for plastic bags, into a fashionable item to carry around beautiful illustrations or bold (fashion) statements. I have been a fan of the tote in any version for a long time now, so I was very happy to receive this wonderful present from my dear friend Mischa. It’s a book totally devoted to the canvas tote bag & it’s illustrations, written by Jitesh Patel.

The possibilities are endless and I love how designers who usually don’t design textile products do experiment with their illustrations on a tote. ∗

Paperbags

Posted on November 14th, 2012

     photos via Paqhuis

These beautiful paperbags by the Italian Uashmama are made out of paper but they look like leather and they are washable like fabric. It’s a versatile, sustainable product that you can use in the kitchen, the bathroom, the living room - well… pretty much anywhere you like!

The Finish textile and clothing design house Marimekko brings comparable bags in a few of their signiture patterns. These are only two examples of my favorite patterns in which these bags are available:

They’re great to use for storaging fruits, towels, craft supplies, magazines or even to replace an ordinary bread basket on your dinner table!∗

Clever bookmark

Posted on November 13th, 2012

I spotted this bookmark yesterday and I wanted to share it with you because I just love simple, yet clever ideas like this. This bookmark is brilliant in its simplicity. You fix it onto the front and the back of your book and when you close your book the marker automatically inserts itself at the right place. French designer Oscar Lhermitte launched his bookmark via crowdfunding. You can buy the bookmark via Albatros.

In my very honest opinion, I think the visual aspect could use a bit fine tuning to give it more appeal (you know, add a stunning pattern for instance) but then again, I’m just a huge sucker for aesthetics…∗

Harvest calendar 2013

Posted on November 9th, 2012

I treated myself to a new calendar for the new year in our new home :). It’s by the Norwegian design studio Darling Clementine, of which I showed you this tray before. I think the simplistic illustrations are absolutely beautiful and the sophisticated colors schemes could very well be my inspiration for the colors in our new living room.

Cross stitch rug

Posted on November 6th, 2012

We all know that (handi)crafting is incredibly popular right now and it probably will be for a long time to come. Embroidering, knitting & crocheting rid themselves of their dusty, dull image bit by bit, as they are embraced by creatives all around the globe. I can imagine the designers at Gan were inspired by this when they created this gorgeous rug with matching poufs & pillows. I stumbled upon this beautiful design at Interieur 2012 and I felt it deserved a separate blog post.

I love how the rug looks like a vintage carpet from a distance, complete with nostalgic rose and all. But if you look up closer you see the unimpaired yarn & the saturated colors and that it is actually brand new. Absolutely love it!∗
