White + neon photoshoot

a pop of fluor

Posted on May 19th, 2013

Since the spring of last year neon colors are hard to miss. Suddenly they popped up everywhere you looked. In fashion, in graphics and in interior design. I thought this was going to be the kind of trend that would last only one season, but I was wrong! Neon & fluorescent colors are still a hit. With one big difference from last year though: now neon & fluor are used more as bright popping accents. And I like it a lot like this!

So, it was a lot of fun styling this photo shoot I did with Dorothy from Visagie Doro T and Anna-Marie Janssen. I hunted for white garments with a minimalistic feel, to combine with colorful accessories, while Dorothy spiced things up with flashy neon accents in the make up. I love the clean, crisp atmosphere Anna-Marie so perfectly captured.

Galvin Brothers

Posted on May 10th, 2013

I’m a fan of the unique, handcrafted wooden furniture by Galvin Brothers, from the moment I first spotted their Imperfect Stool:

Imperfect_Stool_Galvin_Brothers

Galvin Brothers design & make contemporary furniture from their workshops in Yorkshire, England. They describe their furniture as functional objects with a twist, placing traditional joinery techniques at the centre of contemporary forms.

Founded in March 2012 as a partnership between Matthew Galvin (designer) and Andrew Galvin (joiner), they’re building on their Father’s 61 years of joinery and cabinet making experience. According to them Galvin Brothers furniture is designed & built to last; honest-to-goodness and evenly priced. ∗

Let’s catch up!

Posted on May 5th, 2013

Hey guys! I’m so sorry for my absence of the past three weeks. I hardly got any work done on my computer, let alone spend time on the Internet… Life is a bit hectic at the moment (but fun!!). First of all I’m very excited about my new job – which I started only 3 weeks ago - as a girls clothing designer. I’m so happy to be designing collections again and being part of a team. This new job is really giving me a lot of positive energy, but it also requires a lot of me at the same time, to be honest. I’m sure this will get better in a few more weeks, when I’m more accustomed to the new environment & responsibilities.

Of course my husband & I are also still doing some chores in & around our new house and with my new job this is more or less coming down to the weekends now. Nevertheless, with the lovely weather, we are really enjoying our garden too, and we keep telling each other how happy we are with our decision to move out of the city to a greener environment.

Besides all this I’ve been really busy making products to sell at the Markt van Morgen. If you’re following me on Facebook, I’m sure you’ve read all about it. If you haven’t, you can view more photos here!

I wrote my first guest blog, which was really fun to do. I was honoured to be asked for it by Deepa Paul. If you’re ever in Antwerp and want to know about a great place for breakfast or lunch, you should definitely read all about it on the lovely blog Currystrumpet.

And last but not least, yesterday I had another wonderful creative day with make up artist Doro T & photographer Amy Janssen (a.k.a. Anna-Marie). We worked together on a fun & edgy fashion photoshoot, for which I did the styling part. I will show you the results very soon! I already know it’s going to look awesome!

I’ll be honest with you. I can’t promise I’ll be posting a whole lot for the time to come. Right now there’s just too much stuff going on in my life and I simply can’t do it all… But I’ll make sure to keep you posted! I do have one great post scheduled for this week though: it’s going to be a lovely photo post of beautiful wooden furniture…

Next week, Sunday May 12th,  I’ll be at the Markt van Morgen in Antwerp again, selling my Mr. Monster, Ms. Doll and Peppermint postcards. Have a lovely week! ∗

Ciao! xxx

“Markt van Morgen” in Antwerp

Posted on April 9th, 2013

This whole week I’m busy prepping for the creative Antwerp designers fair ”Markt van Morgen” (Tomorrows Market). I’ve written about this market already: click here to read the story. The 1st edition of 2013 will take place on Sunday April 14th and I’m very excited to tell you I will have a stand on this market, selling Peppermint postcards and Peppermini handmade dolls! So, my sewing machine is working overtime right now. Luckily I’ve had help of my mother in law today (seriously, I have the best parents in law!). And my husband is helping me labeling the bags. Our house is like a mini factory right now… I will show you the Peppermini dolls this Friday!

Pastel pink power

Posted on April 3rd, 2013

Oh, how I love Pinterest… It is the perfect place to collect inspiring images I stumble upon. Most of the time I’m not even sure for what purpose I’m saving images, but if they strike me in one way or the other, I’ll “pin” them. Every now and then - without really making an effort - a beautiful collage forms itself. That is what happened here. I’m really drawn to this soft mauvy-pink, and I think these images all together form a gorgeous color palette. Combined with wood and other raw, natural materials, pink isn’t necessarily all that girly. Especially this shade of pink.∗

DIY Easter decoration

Posted on March 25th, 2013

Inspired by the origami goodness of the last post, I’ve created a fun & simple DIY for Easter. You can make these cute paper butterflies yourself in just minutes!

Follow the steps below to make your own paper butterflies:

Now go on and decorate that Easter branch! Simply place the butterflies anywhere you like. Because of the folded shape it’s easy to clip them between the twirly twigs. Enjoy! ∗

Favorite finds: origami influences

Posted on March 20th, 2013

(Have you read it yet? Mintstudio Creations is changing her name to Peppermint!)

As a child I used to make origami figures all the time. Since geometry is so present in all kinds of design at this moment, I guess my mind automatically is drawn to the clean & sharp lines of origami again too. I keep finding origami influences everywhere I look, and I love it! ∗
